We are ILLUMINA DUO
Attracted to the vast sound world for Trumpet and Organ, Ellie Lovegrove and Richard Moore formed a musical partnership as Illumina Duo in 2012.
Their first CD, “Illuminations, Dances & Poems” was released on Convivium in 2017.
Performing at venues including St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Paul’s Cathedral, London, Trinity College, Oxford, Alexandra Palace, and Winchester Cathedral, Illumina are at home performing to audiences of all shapes and sizes.
In addition to the traditional repertoire, from Baroque to the 20th Century, they are keen to promote and perform modern music, and have been proactive in commissioning works from emerging composers.
This has included a World Première performance as part of the 2014 London Festival of Contemporary Church Music, and commissions from Paul Burke, Solfa Carlile, Kit Downes (ECM), Roderick Elms and Bernard Hughes.
Having received The Eric Thompson Trust Award in 2017, and generous support from The GEMMA Classical Music Trust, UK, they were able to record several of these commissions, and several commercially unrecorded pieces on “Illuminations, Dances & Poems”.
Illumina are also delighted to have recorded for Roderick Elms’ Christmas CD, including two works he wrote for the Duo; “Pipe Dream” (Premiered in Brentwood Cathedral, 2018) and “Advent Dances”. The sheet music for Pipe Dream is available from Spartan Press.
Their versatility as a Duo has allowed them to deliver concerts in venues from small Parish Churches to large Cathedrals, to Music Festivals and Family Concerts, lunchtime and evening. They aspire to include something in their Programme to suit everyone, as well as challenging the boundaries with new music, and enjoy engaging with audiences.
